Parenting“You may give them your love but not your thoughts, For they have their own thoughts. You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth”.
Khalil Gibran – The Prophet
Being a parent is a mixture of joy and worry, in ever varying degrees. When our children are unsettled it can affect us deeply and life can feel very unhappy. We may be repeating old, unhelpful patterns of behaviour without realising it, and yet it often takes the smallest of ‘tweaks’ to move things forward.
Taking time-out with a qualified counsellor can be very helpful way of exploring what is happening in your relationship with your child. Together we can look at positive ways of making a better outcome for both of you when you have concerns such as:
- Major changes in the family such as divorce or separation
- Adjusting as a family to new step parents and step children
- Poor communication or fighting between parents and children, or between children
- Children or young people expressing sadness, anger or frustration through negative behaviour
